EAST BRIDGEWATER COMMUNITY CHURCH

DOCTRINAL STATEMENT

Adopted 9/97

I. We believe that Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, came into this world as prophesied in Scripture to manifest God to men and became the Redeemer of a lost world, and that during His sojourn among men He was absolute God and perfect sinless man.
II. We believe in one God, the Creator of all things, Who eternally exists in three persons: Father,Son and Holy Spirit. We believe in the Virgin birth, substitutionary death, bodily resurrection and
ascension, and the personal return of Jesus Christ to set up His millennial kingdom following a seven-year tribulation period upon the earth.
III. We believe in the person and work of the Holy Spirit in the conviction of sin, which leads to the sinner's repentance and salvation (which includes regenerating, indwelling, baptizing, and
sealing) and the believer's sanctification
IV. We believe that the Holy Scriptures were communicated by the Spirit of God to holy men of oldto the extent that the very words of the original manuscripts are verbally and completely
inspired, infallible, inerrant, supreme and final. (II Tim. 3:16, II Pet. 1:21)
V. We believe that man was originally created in the image and likeness of God but fell through disobedience. Through Adam's act o disobedience, he sinned, causing spiritual death to be passed onto all men. Through Adam's fall all men are born sinners, guilty before God and deserving of judgment, and are in need of salvation through faith in the finished work of Christ on the cross.
VI. We believe that salvation has been provided for all of mankind through the substitutionary and vicarious work of Christ at Calvary. The benefits of Christ's work are available to all, but only those who by faith trust in Christ's finished work as a payment for their sins receive the benefits. The benefits of salvation are regeneration, adoption, justification, redemption, reconciliation, and nearness to God.
VII. We believe at the time of death the believer is kept by God unto eternal life in Heaven. The souls of the lost are kept in conscious misery and eternal punishment in Hell. We believe in the
bodily resurrection of all men, the saved to dwell with God forever in the new heaven and new earth, and the lost to be punished in the lake of fire forever.
VIII. We believe in the existence of spiritual beings spoken of in Scripture as angels, demons and Satan.
IX. We believe that the commission to every believer given us by Christ is to make Christ known to the whole world.
