Genesis 3:1-7
Adam and Eve :
- naked but clothed in innocence
- Made perfectly by God
- Set in a perfect environment
- Provided for perfectly
Satan questioned God’s command
Satan came to Eve:
disguised, unexpected, and using a subordinate
Satan the serpent:
- Satan impugned God
- Satan denied the Word of God
1 John 2:16
- The lust of the flesh: “good for food” the desire to do something contrary to God’s will
- The lust of the eyes: “delightful to look at” the desire to have something apart from God’s will
- The pride of life: “desirable for obtaining wisdom” the desire to be something apart from God’s will
Sin always results in alienation:
- between God and man
- between man and man
- between man and himself
- between man and nature
- between men and women
- between husbands and wives
What to take home
1.Temptations are not sins until we respond by giving in to them.
2.Ignorance of God’s Word makes us very vulnerable to temptation
3.Failure to appreciate God’s goodness leads to distrust of His goodness
4.God’s prohibitions as well as His provisions are for our welfare
