The Fallout
The Immediate effects of Sin
- They felt guilt and shame (v. 7).
- They tried to change these conditions by their own efforts (v. 7).
- They fled from God’s presence out of fear of Him (vv. 8, 10).
- They tried to blame their sin on another rather than confessing their personal responsibility (vv. 12, 13).
Effects on the serpent 3:14-15
- Cursed
- Eat dust
- There would be enmity between the serpent and human beings
- Christ would eventually destroy the serpent
Effects on women 3:16
- Woman will experience increased “pain” in bearing children

- Women’s desire would be for their husbands
owoman’s desire would be subject to her husband’s desire.
oThe woman will desire to dominate the relationship with her husband.
oThe woman will have a great longing for, yearning for, and psychological dependence on her husband.
Effects on humanity 3:17-19
- People would have to work hard
- People would “return to dust” when they died (v. 19)
- Expulsion from the garden 3:22-24
- Clothing is now Divinely commanded
Faith shown 3:20, 21
1.Adam and Eve accepted their judgment from God and did not rebel against it.
2.Adam believed (had faith) that life would continue in spite of God’s curse
What to take home:
1)God calls sinners to confess their sin
2)There is punishment for sin
3)God makes gracious provisions for the believing sinners
4)Sinful rebellion against God brings pain, conflict, and death; but confession to God ensures God’s gracious provisions.
